What is Dyspepsia?

Dyspepsia is known as Agnimandya in Ayurveda. Dyspepsia is a condition, which is associated with indigestion of foods. There are so many causes of dyspepsia such as GERD, IBS, stomach ulcer, etc. As per ayurvedic tips, it is generally happened due to the lower presence of Jatharagni (digestive juices). Among the 13 types of Agni, Jatharagni is the most important; therefore dyspepsia should be treated properly in order to prevent the progress of the diseases and disorders.Lemon for dyspepsia

Symptoms of dyspepsia

There are many symptoms and signs of dyspepsia. Some of the important symptoms are given below.

  • Indigestion
  • Loss of appetite
  • Loss of taste
  • Salivation
  • Sour eructation
  • Stomach heaviness
  • Heartburn
  • Bloating
  • Nausea

Causes of dyspepsia

  • GERD(Gasteroesopahgeal  Reflux Disease)
  • IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Excessive intake of beverages
  • Peptic and stomach ulcer
  • Excessive eating
  • Hurriedly eating

Ayurveda treatments for dyspepsia

  1. Dried ginger:  The powder of dried ginger (2g) should be taken twice a day with warm water to relieve the condition.
  2. Ginger: The mix of ginger (5g), salt or jaggery (little amount) can be taken twice a day before meal to subsidise the impact of dyspepsia or acid indigestion.
  3. Chebulic myrobalan powder: 3 gram of this powder may be taken twice a day with salt before meal. It is helpful to give relief from indigestion.
  4. Lemon juice: Lemon juice is beneficial in curing of indigestion. Method: Take about 15-20 ml lemon juice three times a day after breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  5. Black pepper and lemon: Take 1 gram each of black pepper and salt. Now, put the mixture on lemon and heat it over cinder.  Such juice may be taken twice or thrice a day with meal.
  6. Long pepper and lemon: 1gram each of long pepper and salt may be taken along with lemon juice two times a day with meal.
  7. Fennel and lime water:  Soaked 25 gram of fennel in 350 ml of water for 3 hours. Strain by pressing and mix lime water and lime juice. Now, divide it into three parts. The first part may be taken after meal while the remaining two parts may be taken after short intervals.
  8. Chebulic myrobalan and dried ginger: Take equal parts of fruit rind of Chebulic myrobalan and dried ginger and rock salt into powder form and one third of its weight of jaggery. This is to be taken in 1 to 3 gram dose with warm water once a day before first meal.
  9. Lavanbhaskar curna: It’s 1 to 3 gram may be taken with warm water or lemon juice to times a day before meal.
  10. Hingvastaka curna: 1 to 3 gram of it may be taken with warm water or lemon juice before meal.

Natural tips for dyspepsia

Here, I am giving you some simple natural tips to control and prevent dyspepsia, indigestion and stomach ulcer.

  • Avoid spicy, oily, fast and junk foods.
  • Take light meal and give more time on chewing. As per yogic philosophy, once you put food into your mouth, if should be chewed about 37 times.
  • Try to take your dinner early and manages to have gap of minimum two to three hours between your meals.
  • Skip beverages, smoking and alcoholism.
