Mario Miranda, the cartoonist, passes away


Mario Miranda, 85, a legend in the cartoonist world died in Louolim, Goa after a prolong illness. He left this world peacefully in his sleep, said his wife Habiba. He provided the glimpse of Goan ethos and cultures both at the domestic as well as international level through his canvas. The legend will be cremated not buried tomorrow as he wished to his wife.

Mario Miranda  was conferred so many awards like Padma Shri in 1988 and Padma Bhushan in 2002.

Digambar Kamat, chief minister, Goa expressed his condolence for the legend. Mario Miranda’s demises is a setback for Goa, said the chief minister. The people of Goa expressed deep grief over the death of  the cartoonist. Hundreds of people thronged his residence after the sad news.

Not a single continent left where he didn’t display his artistic exhibitions. More or less in all the portray, he highlighted the significance of Indian culture and Goa. His illustrations were impeccable. He presented remarkable cartoons for the Economic Times and Femina. He depicted many cities of the world through pictorial travelogues.
